Programme objectives

The objective of the Master’s programme in Energy-Efficient Construction is to convey fundamental knowledge covering potential areas for energy saving, thermal insulation for construction, regenerative thermal supply and cost-effectiveness. Students are equipped with the skills for planning and constructing energy-efficient and passive buildings as well as carrying out renovations of existing structures to the highest level of energy efficiency.

A further objective of this Master's programme is to become equipped to apply scientific methods and to independently master the demands of a wide range of professional roles in applied practice, research or teaching.

Admission requirements

Admission to the Master‘s programme Energy-efficient Building Construction and Reconstruction requires a good or excellent university degree completed over a standard course duration of at least 7 semesters or at least 210 credits in the fields of civil engineering or architecture. Applicants who cannot meet the requirement for 210 credits but can provide evidence of at least 180 credits will be checked individually.

The Master’s programme also requires a proof of at least 10 ECTS in the field of building physics / TGA / building technology and 5 ECTS in the subject area building construction. 

The language of instruction is German. Foreign applicants must prove they have adequate knowledge of German. Evidence of the necessary German language skills can be provided in the form of:

  • Goethe Certificate C1
  • DSH I
  • DSD II
  • TestDaF (minimun level 3 in all examination modules)
  • TELC Deutsch C1 Hochschule
  • ÖSD C1
