Programme objectives

This practice-oriented course prepares students for work as technically oriented industrial designers and/or developers of technical products involving design aspects. The Master of Arts in Engineering Design programme is intended for designers with technical skills and technicians with design skills. The Master's programme offers complementary courses for the fundamentals of design and fundamentals of technology. Students gain particular competencies in integrated product design, bionics and system design. These skills enable graduates to successfully develop sustainable industrial products in team environments. An instructional cooperation with the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and cooperation projects with companies help to round out the practically oriented programme.

 

Degree Course Content

The programme is modular in structure. The modules may consist of sub-modules. The range of studies includes mandatory modules, mandatory elective modules and elective modules.

Within the framework of the current regulations, tutors are responsible for determining the subject-specific balance between different forms of teaching on their modules. The scope of mandatory and mandatory elective modules during the full course of studies amounts to 30 semester hours.

Admission requirements

Admission to a Master‘s programme Engineering Design requires a good or excellent university degree completed in a related field.

As a requirement for admission, applicants have to pass an aptitude test, for which they submit a portfolio which demonstrates the special design and technical aptitude required for this programme.

The aptitude test is divided into three sections:
1. Evaluation of portfolio
2. Practical test
3. Assessment interview


The application takes place in two independent steps.

  • Please apply via uni-assist until 31. May for winter semester or until 30. November for summer semester.
  • Please send your CV and your portfolio to the university (same deadlines).

The language of instruction is German. Foreign applicants must prove they have adequate knowledge of German. Evidence of the necessary German language skills can be provided in the form of:

  • Goethe Certificate C1
  • DSH I
  • DSD II
  • TestDaF (minimun level 3 in all examination modules) or
  • TELC Deutsch C1 Hochschule
  • ÖSD C1
